we continue the 09 debs tour today
with a visit from j. e. macleod, the author
of waiting to score!
About Waiting to Score
Zack Chase, new in town, gets a crash course in the dangerous,
fast-paced lives of local teen athletes. A good-looking, book-loving
hockey star, Zack’s also expected to be a womanizing, alcohol-abusing
party animal, but it’s not who he is. As jealous, obnoxious team captain
Mac hounds him, Zack falls for Goth-girl Jane and befriends her teammate
brother, both with their own secrets. Tragedy strikes and affects them all
in this true-to-life debut novel, giving readers an insight into the lives of
high school students and athletes.
About J.E. MacLeod
J.E.’s path to becoming an author was a windy one.
After college, she wrote advertising copy for radio
and then television and eventually moved on to work
in sales and marketing for too many years.
After having a son, J.E. followed her dreams and wrote her first book.
Once she started writing YA, she felt like she’d found her home and
has been writing it ever since. J.E. lives near the Canadian Rockies with
her husband and son and a new puppy named Meeko. She does not live
in an Igloo or play hockey, but she does love maple syrup and says “eh” a lot.
onto the cindy interview!
1. who is your literary character crush?
Hmm. Not Edward, okay? He has fangs. How about
the guy from the Time Traveler’s Wife? Henry DeTamble.
He was awesome. Oh. And also the guy from Sloppy Firsts
by Megan McCaffety. If I were a teenager. Which I’m not.
2. who is your author crush? (does not have to
be romantic!)
I am seriously crushing on David Levithan. His writing,
the books he edits… swoon.
3. what is your favorite pastry?
I don’t like pastry. Give me cake. With icing.
4. favorite scene from your novel?
The opening scene with Zack in the change room
contemplating hockey and his new team. Because
that’s when I “met” him. Hee hee.

Macleod “sounds” fun!
Loved seeing SILVER PHEONIX on the BOOKLIST cover! My local library system had not ordered a copy of the book. I took care of it, but now I’m wondering how that sort of thing is decided at libraries throughout US. Any ideas?
anita, i wish i knew! i think that libraries must have budgets like everything else and they somehow have to pick and choose?
thanks for having silver phoenix ordered at your local library! yay!!
Hmmm…I’ll do some investigating on this subject. When I told the librarian I wanted it in our library system, she ordered it right then and there. Maybe it’s usually not that easy (I have a book column, the woman knows me, and I pointed out the BOOKLIST coverage). I’ll find out about our system’s usual method.
wow, thanks anita!! i know a person can “request” a book, but i don’t think there’s a guarantee it’s ordered? you did something right!! YAY!
