the bubs are finally back in school (summer camp!)
and i feel like i’ve got a zillion things to do! first and
foremost is to finish my sequel! july is just around the corner
which means the first of my convention at the beginning
of the month — ala chicago!! i’ll also be doing local library
teen book club visits throughout the summer and will
start local school visits in the fall.
each thing taken by itself is very exciting!
when i look at everything together all at once–
bad idea–more than a little overwhelming.
i’ll be doing my first RADIO INTERVIEW this friday!
it’s for KCMN AM — a colorado station at 8.30am.
that means i’ll be chatting bright and early at 7.30am
my time on friday. do wish me luck! =D
i had the pleasure of sharing a last official san diego
meal with foodie and cali girl convert k this week.
she introduced me to this izakaya restaurant and it was
so so so good. the definition is small dishes served at
a japanese establishment serving alcohol–so their
version of tapas. i didn’t drink tho, just ate. i love having
lots of small dishes to try, it is so fun and a feast for
the senses!!
stewed bamboo and pumpkin. the pumpkin was
so sweet and i absolutely LOVE bamboo. just call
me panda cindy.
this salad had a light dressing which i love
and deep fried shredded yams (perhaps?) piled on top.
i’m probably the only person in america who
doesn’t eat sushi. ha! but the salmon slices were
cooked and delicious. k had all the raw slices of
scallop and said it was great too!
tofu (YUM!) and clams stewed in sake.
alas, the clams weren’t fresh and tasted yucky.
i thought i was being particular (as i don’t eat
a lot of shellfish) but k confirmed and they took
the dish away and we weren’t charged for it.
grilled rice balls with soy sauce.
you could also choose miso flavor!
yam cake that scared me. ha!
it was a little spicy and salty and the
consistency killed me–crunchy. k said
chewy but no, i love me my mochi. this
yam cake was just crunchy.
deep fried drumsticks. i’m actually
salivating right now thinking about it.
my dessert! they called it pudding but it
was more like an egg custard with caramel sauce
and black butter on the side. SO GOOD, and very
light and not too sweet.
k got the strawberry parfait and it was really
yummy too!

I absolutely LOVE your photos – and food – that’s one of the reasons I’m starting a diet on Sunday. But yesterday I took a couples classes, one on Sake, one on Sushi, and one on Spices – the 3 S’s.
Congrats on all of the exciting stuff coming up, and best of luck on Friday! You’ll be great :).
Oh, man, the foooood. Tomorrow’s my husband’s and my 4th anniversary (yay!), so maybe we’ll go have some fancy Japanese food now!
Most of that looks very yummy! I must admit the yam cakes and the clams do not look that good, but everything else does–especially the amazing strawberry parfait!
And you aren’t the only one who doesn’t like sushi; I can’t stand it either :P
Well YUM! That all looked good to me!
Was going to check in on you and see how the sequel was coming along. I’m still plodding along on revisions. My girls are in camp for 2 weeks now and then will be home for 2weeks before going back, so I gotta be productive now!!!
Good luck with the radio interview! Did they tell you how long it would be?
you seriously need to come to my area and have some great izakaya.
Fantastic (drool). Wish I could have joined you! I miss Tokyo izakayas…
Looks really yummy! But what’s it called??
I’m not a big fan of sushi. Actually I’m not a big fan of anything raw. The caramel dessert looked delicious! I’m almost addicted to caramel =)
The pictures are lovely!
And I’m wishing you a lot of good luck on your first interview!! Have a wonderful time!
I’ve got to say this: I just LOVE those little robots next to our names on the comments =)
jen, five minute interview! i’ve another that’s 22 minutes, yikes!
win, the first time i tried was a GREAT place in torrance that vicky took me to. i’ve not had it since.
bri, what’s what called? the restaurant or the dishes? i can’t remember or pronounce either. ha!
ello–really need to crank out the sequel! GOOD LUCK with your revisions!
Five minutes seems too short, 22 too long, 10 sounds just right, lol.
Can’t wait to hear how it goes! Good luck!
Izakaya is one of my obsessions – especially good torikawa – but I wouldn’t throw a fried drumstick out of my bed, either! yummmm!
