i love seashells.
this is my collection from
our ten year anniversary
trip to fiji last april.
of note :
1. the giant triton horn we
purchased from a village on an
island across from our resort.
only when we were going through
customs (and my precious shell had
been wrapped carefully and checked
in with the luggage) that i found out
it was illegal to take them out of the
country. =O
i think the fiji government was trying
to protect these shell critters. and i’d
venture the village woman who sold the
shell probabaly ate the critter?
2. the sea urchin shell with the
small hole is striped in
lavender and was my present from the
love for our anniversary. =D he has a
habit of diving and finding treasures from
the sea for me. so i requested a gift and
he returned with this. i love it because
urchin shells are very delicate and often
smashed on the seafloor. or covered
in slime.
3. the peach colored shell with the long
spines i found during a walk around our
island! it was tucked between two large
rocks on the sand. i looked down and there
it was. i was so happy i jumped up and down.
i love seashells for their infinite combinations
of shapes, designs and colors. i think they
are little miracles–like babies and rainbows.
i’m done with my first line edits,
but will take the time to read through
some key scenes again before sending
the draft in. with virginia’s
edits, i’ve taken 13k in words from the
novel (!!) bringing it to about 82k.
yesterday, i received a nice email from
someone at greenwillow who is handling
the copyright to the novel. apparently, a
cynthia pon has already published, so she
asked for my full name and birth date to
help distinguish me when i’m added
to the library of congress’ system.
!!!
i thought that was so exciting.
everything is so exciting!
so i’m registered under cindy [chinese
middle name] pon. i wonder what
cynthia pon published?

Well, according to Amazon, she’s co-written a book called Children of the U.S.A. and is the director of The Global Fund for Children Books and lives in Washington D.C.
Library of Congress–oooh!!! I’ll have to go up there and take a photo of it, if they still put books on public shelves.
LOve your shells! Beautiful! And so funny on another Pon. Wow! Am loving hearing what you are going through! So exciting.
The same thing happened to me! So they added my middle initial. I have to say that I don’t love having my birth date on the copyright page… it just seems too personal. Maybe I’m being silly.
Congratulations on your official entry into the Library of Congress, and on the pruning. I can’t wait to read this!
amber, wow, she sounds important. haha! i was hoping she was a scientist with a boring research book. haha!
ello, here’s to you being here soon! =D
debbie, yikes, our bday goes in the book? i don’t like the idea of that, either–unless it gets me more presents. which i doubt! =p
Oh, the imposter Jacqui Robbins namesakes running around surprise and frustrate me. What are they doing with MY name??
I’m lucky (I think). I’ve never seen another author named Maggie Clarke…
Congrats on finishing your line edits, Cindy! That must be a great feeling.
HI Cindy,
I left you an email.
Okay, probably 2 or 3…
:-)
That’s a beautiful collection.
It’s great that you’re finding everything so exciting, it IS exciting!
jacqui, it didn’t happen to you, too, did it?? oh, it reminds me i want to buy your book from you!
maggie, you never know! well, you will know when your name is being registered at the library of congress soon. ;*)
chris, gotcha!
jen, thanks!!! eeeeee!!
whoops, missed ya julianne! it is! i still have some work to do, tho. it feels like the ms can always be improved. aaaahhhh!
No, no other writers, as far as I know. But a pole-vaulter and a marketer and someone involved in something called “Gang Show Girlies.”
a shell fan, too… nothing exotic
did you google ‘cynthia pon’?
jacqui, admit it, that last one is you. haha!
LW, the fantastic thing about shells is, they really vary from place to place. and no, i didn’t google her. i guess i’d like to think i’m an original. 8)
Love teh seashells. So pretty.
I’ve heard so many good things about Greenwillow. Are you working with Sarah Cloots?
sheri, greenwillow is beyond awesome! and i’m working with virginia duncan.
Finding shells is like a secret gift as delicate as dreams.
I resent that woman. There is only one Cindy Pon!
Yay, another sea-shell lover :)
Sea urchin shells are the best…I had a handful of beautiful sea-green ones…which sadly got crushed during a move :(
Oh right all your postings about line edits from ‘Virginia.’ DUH!!!
b, love that. so poetic!
and thankfully, i’m just a cindy, not a cynthia. =)
crimson, oh no on the urchin shells
breaking! =( i hope you find others in the future.
sheri, haha! it’s okay, i’m like that, too. =)
