i haven’t updated because i like
pulling up the blog and seeing my
foto with mr.gaiman. =D
also because it’s been a
very busy week.
at the beginning of the week,
virginia sent me a link to some
possible models who will pose
as my heroine for the cover shoot.
we agreed on the three we felt
were the best possibilities. that was
very fun and very surreal.
the biggest challenge was that most
of the models wore quite a lot of
makeup and my heroine is seventeen
years and fresh faced. so we
had to gauge how young the models
could look without all the camouflage. 8)
also some more research on costumes
and accessories.
as fun and exciting as working on the
cover is, the most exciting thing happened
last saturday–i received my first part
of line edits from virginia. out of about
150 pages, i think ONE page was left
unmarked. haha! it was a real eye opener.
all of her edits were spot on.
and as much as i love sparse
writing, apparently, i am the
exact opposite of that. it certainly
is a lesson on the craft–and one
of the most exciting things for
me yet–to be making the manuscript
cleaner and better with my editor’s
notes. so that’s what i’ve been
immersed in this past week.
a busy weekend. and then next
weekend is the scbwi conference.
i don’t even know where my registration
info is. eek! but i’m so excited!
happy weekend, everyone!

grats on the fun rewrite/rewrite/rewrite, cindy :O lol
hope your weekend’s great, too….
I haven’t gotten confirmation either, but I think you pick up the registration stuff when you get there (that’s what I did last year).
Check out Laini’s last post–she is going through the revision process too.
Cindy,
I am going to say it — I AM SO JEALOUS!!! I know I am not ready for that part in my career yet. Heck! I am still writing the darn thing, but you are living my dream. I am so eager to just “get there” already, even though, like I said, I know I am not ready yet…
Sounds sooooooooo exciting!
LW, thanks for the well wishes! *hands cookie AND milk*
amber, i saw laini’s post. i like dashes myself. not so much italics. i don’t think i’ve had a dash cut out yet. hee!
sheri! if jealousy will keep your rear moving forward, then yay! i can’t believe any of it myself, either!
yum, thx cindy! :)
Cindy,
Is it crazy that I think picking out the model sounds super fun? And I’m glad the line edits finally came for you! I know you’ve been waiting a long time!
Good for you! Keep working and revising cause that means you’re getting closer and closer to publication.
totally and completely jealous of you and your progress on the book front. Cover design, line edits…oh it sounds like heaven! OK, so when is my contract ever going to arrive?? Ugh!
Have a great time at the conference!!
maggie, it was oodles of fun!! i loved it. made it seem much more real. tho still more surreal than real. =)
thanks, AW!
angie, i’m jealous you finished your second novel! that’s amazing! congratulate yourself! and i’m hoping you’ll get rolling with edits soon!!
In a totally unrelated matter, but one Cindy will understand …
That I know of, from personal experience and scholarly research, rabbits only make two sounds.
1.) They grunt lightly, like little pigs. Often this is a sign of amorous intentions, usually concurring with quick circling of the target of the amorous intentions. And yes, rabbits not spayed or neutured will do this around a human’s feet.
2.) In instances of extreme terror and/or oncoming death, rabbits will scream. It is quite a horrifying thing, and something I hope no one (especially any animal lovers) will ever have to hear. It sounds like a young child being brutally murdered. Sorry if that’s a strong image, but that’s what it sounds like.
3.) Okay, I said just two, but there’s kind of a third. Rabbits don’t make sounds with their mouths very often, but quite commonly they make a good racket by thumping their back feet, just like Thumper in the Bambi movie. There are various reasons for this, sometimes as a warning, sometimes because the rabbit is ticked off about something, and sometimes just for play. In my experience, it’s usually just one, big, loud, solid thump. But every once in a while there’s a series of thumps, one right after another.
aww, you rock, ty! i knew bunnies must make some sort of sound. but no one really knows what! i mean, you don’t see the bunnies in the picture books going moo or baaah. how cute that they snort. i don’t want to hear a bunny scream. =(
i have put aside a “bunny allowance” to buy them carrots to eat. they love it! =D but they love our lawn, too.
I didn’t see your Neil Gaiman post—that photo bounces!! You look excuberant!!! (And I’m embarrassed to say I don’t even know who he is, but he’s kinda cute)
:-)
Oops! There is one more sound rabbits sometimes make with their mouths. Forgot all about it until I experienced it again a couple of hours ago. Every once in a while, rabbits will growl a little. It’s just a short little growl, almost like a wheezy hiss. The only time I’ve ever seen it is when my buck and two does are being fed. They growl as I place the bowl in front of them, sort of as if they’re warning me or each other that they are going to get their fair share. Or else!
That’s so cute that you have a “bunny allowance”! Oh and for the record, I don’t want to hear a bunny scream either!!!!
