as in, my head is everywhere this week.
only the galley managed to ground me
when i was proofing. i really enjoyed
reading the novel straight through. there
weren’t too many errors that i caught.
i’ve got an idea about novel 2, changing
the way i’m writing it. it’s essentially two
different stories woven together, with my
heroine at the core of both. must percolate
more and pray for diamond plops. 8)
in the meantime, i started john green’s
paper towns just yesterday. i’m only a few
chapters in, but the voice of the
protag has hooked me already. the author made
me chuckle aloud more than once within
the first pages. and i honestly think that humor
is one of the most difficult things to write. if you
wanted me to describe myself in one word, i would
say funny. but writing humor? not so much.
i saw this book discussed over
on jacket whys, and was curious as this is
a YA book geared toward boys. love it thus
far!
and i also got skin hunger by kathleen
duey (who is a local author!) from the
contest i won over at christy’s! am so excited!
i’ll be bringing this with me to england.
i’ll most likely pick up a few books while
i’m there, too. i love english bookstores for
some reason. 8)
i hope everyone is writing and reading
happily. and getting ready for the holiday
season with good cheer? me? i just feel
slightly frantic. yikes!!

I’m having a hard time feeling Christmasy, too. That may be because capris and Christmas don’t mix in my born-and-raised-in-Utah mind ; )
I just discovered John Green, and I agree–his voice is fabulous and very, very funny. I’ll definitely read more of his!
Good luck with all your trip prep!
Hmm, I generally don’t read YA — except for when your novel comes out, of course! :) But you have me intrigued with this one now.
Oh, and I’m just getting into the Xmas spirit. I can feel it starting, I mean. It’ll probably hit strong next week. Each year takes longer and longer for it to hit. The holiday’s just not what it used to be now that I’m 32.
And, yes, I’ll be reading plenty during my time off. Will also start writing a new short story, too. I’m excited!
Oh . . . I love holidays from New Year’s to Christmas and all the others in between.
I’m reading the True Blood stories and writing a new story. Busy times.
Love hearing about your writing journey.
I got and Abundance of Katherines and Paper Towns for my birthday. I loved Looking for Alaska, John Green’s first novel. I dove straight into Paper Towns and I read the first few chapters. I love what I’ve read so far. Margo is great isn’t she? Then a thought hit me that it might be a good exercise to read them in order of publication to see if the author develops over the three books. So, reluctantly I put PT down and decided to read An Abundance of Katherines first. And guess what? It’s fantastic too. John Green is one smart cookie.
grats and coolios, cindy :D
I’m in the Christmas spirit, just not as much as I usually am. Too much going on. As for humor, I don’t think I’m funny and I definitely can’t write funny. Makes me sad, really. Of course my husband things I can LEARN how to write funny. Bleh.
I just got done decorating the family Christmas tree, so I’m in a holiday kind of mood.
Paper Towns looks really interesting. I keep seeing it in the bookstore and fighting back and forth in my head on whether I should buy it or not. I think I’ll try to check it out from the library soon!
YaY! I hope you like Skin HUnger as much as I did.
P.S. I just added Silver Pheonix and linked your blog on my sidebar for “Soon to be released”
Paper Towns is a dystopian novel, right? I’ve been wanting to check that out.
Also, I read Skin Hunger a while ago after reading an article by Kathleen Duey. It was facinating. (the book and the article)
Have a wonderful trip! And what is Skin Hunger about? The title is great.
And–
I’ve bookwormed you. :)

I’ve been listening to Christmas music every day! I love the holidays. This time of year can soften any blows…
HUmor is hard, but so satisfying when the author pulls it off. I just finished “I Love You, Beth Cooper” by Larry Doyle, who is a writer for The Simpsons. It was hysterical. I wsa reading it out loud to my husband on a road trip and had to stop often because I was laughing too hard to go on. It’s about a nerdy teenager on his graduation night, though I’m not sure whether I’d classify it as YA or not.
kiersten, i can’t wait to read his alaska book! and we don’t have a tree up when we visit england, so less holiday spirit until we arrive there!
david, well, it’s not a genre i’ve read. and i loved it. def not fantasy or historical. but so well written!
kim, i have the first book in that series. haven’t gotten around to it yet!
janey, wow! great presents! i’m so glad i stumbled upon his books!
thanks, LW! =D
christa, you can hone any part of the writing craft, BUT i do think some things come naturally to writers.
christy, i know i’ll enjoy it! and thanks for the linky love!!
renee, hmm. margo has a dystopian view perhaps, but that’s not the heart of it at all.
beth! here is a review :

i think it’s rather dark?
i’ll try and play if i have time. alas, no guarantees.
maggie no x’mas music or tree for me! or even wrapped pressies. we can’t wrap our pressies due to security for the flight. boo!
rachel, that’s fantastic! and yes, humor is very hard to write.
