blossoms and secrets

i’ve been a very lazy and neglectful artist.
since i share so many of my images online,
they are tiny in size, and not
good enough for my paint and prose gallery.
i had to resurrect the old pc (which has not
been turned on in nearly three years), and
thankfully, i had large images saved of most
of my paintings–the majority of which i’ve
sold or gifted.

scanning is the best thing you can do for
art. but i have a teeny scanner. which means
scanning a large painting by sections and then
weaving them together in photoshop. i actually
*used* to have this skill–i don’t know how,
as i’m very incapable as far as image and web
design. now i’ve forgotten how. but i should
still scan paintings in while i can–to at least
have them in parts at a high resolution.
as a writer, i never delete drafts of prose,
but i’m not as careful with my paintings, which
i find impossible to replicate.

i mentioned secrets in the blog title.
i’m usually very possesive of my dreams.
i read somewhere when i first began writing
the novel to tell as many friends and family
as you can–so they will ask about your progress
and help get your butt in gear.
i don’t like to not finish what i set
out to do, so it’s definitely incentive
for me to move forward.

these two dreams of mine i’ve clutched
to myself for a few years at least.
someday, i’d love to write and illustrate

a children’s picture book–using my own brush
paintings. =D also, i would love to write a novel
loosely based on my maternal grandmother and
grandfather’s lives–which was during the the
turbulent times post-WWII in china. my
grandfather kept oodles of journals (he taught
me to journal) and it pains me that i cannot
read any of them. i am blind to the language
as my mother always says.

it doesn’t mean i can’t have them translated

in the future? there are barriers to both these
dreams–but such is the way of the great ones.

*peach blossoms, which some of you have
seen before. this is a better image–still impossible
to see the subtle details and colors, alas.

Okay, I’ve decided to be your new best friend so you can gift me with a painting….:p

Seriously, I am swept up in the dream of your children’s book. I would definitely want one for my kids.

As for translating the journals, you certainly could have them translated – or learn the language yourself (the way the book market’s going, it might be quicker even than getting a publishing contract…

I wish you the best in these dreams of yours!!

aerin, thank you, you’re so sweet. i’m not so foolish to think i can just sit down and write a children’s book or paint well enough just yet–everything takes patience and time, esp in publishing! but it’s something to work toward. our kids will be teens probably by the time i realize this dream! =D

thanks for your encouraging and sweet comment as always!!

    The painting’s not showing up.

    Was struck by this:

i read somewhere when i first began writing
the novel to tell as many friends and family
as you can–so they will ask about your progress
and help get your butt in gear.

For some, telling everyone is the worst possible thing. I regret it deeply. (g) Nothing worse than having people constantly asking when you’re going to finish…

bernita, thank you! i hope so, too. i need to research on writing children’s picture books as well as improve my painting skills. the other may have to wait for a while, but it’s still a dream.

beth, boo on the peach blossoms not showing–i haven’t had an issue. and it’s exactly why you need to tell people, so they’ll nag you and get you to write! =D i want your book to be done!!

Just FYI, I’m seeing a red X instead of peach blossoms too. Which is a pity, cos I really want to see them. :(
